Holland Park

Deep reinforced concrete basement, Kensington, London

Project overview

A basement and swimming pool beneath one of London’s most exclusive addresses

Building downwards in Kensington leaves no margin for error: tight access, neighbouring structures and a deep excavation that has to stay exactly where the engineer drew it. HYB delivered the complete basement works — excavation, temporary works and the reinforced concrete structure — including the striking circular void that defines the space.

Curved reinforcement, radiused shutters and disciplined pour sequencing brought the circular geometry out of the drawings and into concrete, while monitoring and propping kept the surrounding ground and party structures secure throughout the dig.
